Does anyone want to guess the #1 movie in America last weekend? It was Jurassic Park! That’s right, the 1993 hit has returned to some movie theaters among the ongoing Covid-19 crisis.

To this day, Jurassic Park is the scariest movie I have ever seen in theaters. Mind you, I was only eight years old when it came out… so that might have had something to do with it.

The scariest part to me was when the T-Rex turned over the car with the kids inside.  As a kid, that just terrified me.

We could have a long debate over whether Lex and Tim have awful parents…I mean, who would send their kids to a brand-new park with dinosaurs… but anyway…

I instead wanted to focus on the document your kids need if they are going on a vacation with someone other than their parents.

Healthcare Power of Attorney for Minor Children

As parents, it is easy to take our children to the doctor if something happens to them. However, if you are not around, it is significantly harder for your children to get the care they need.

When my son was 1-year-old, he fell off a little slide and broke his leg. My wife stayed home with the twins, and my mother-in-law brought my son to the hospital. However, since my mother-in-law was not my son’s parents, the doctors had to confirm she had permission to bring him to the hospital. (It was a quick phone call to my wife.)

Now, imagine your kids are on a vacation with their grandfather, and you are nowhere around. How would their grandfather take them to the hospital after they escaped from a kitchen full of raptors?

That is where a Healthcare Power of Attorney for Children comes into play. This document allows someone you name to bring your children to the doctor if you are not around.

Whether they are on a vacation, or just with a babysitter for a night, if someone is watching your kids, it is essential to make sure they have the proper documentation needed to take them to the doctor.
